My name is Michael Morris, I am an artist based in Houston, Texas. I am primarily focused on painting, drawing, and printmaking. Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by stories and myths from different cultures around the world. As I have gotten older, I have developed a deep appreciation for the meaning these stories have for the people of the past. The past is an important aspect of my work, including general history and my life experience. I want to create new ways of thinking for old ideas and personalize them to fit into my life. Beyond cultural and mythological influences, I have also developed an interest in occultism and esoteric practices, which have become powerful tools for symbolism and connection with divine forces. All these aspects make their way into my work, and I apply whatever I learn into it and myself. I establish my imagery with elements relating to my life experiences, nature, and magic. The main thought process behind the creation of my work is finding a way to put these elements in conversation with each other. My work is always within a state of transition. To me, these in-between states reference the mystical concept of divine unity, where two opposing forces find harmony through supernatural means. I view this unity as a magical action that transforms our understanding of life. I want to discuss the ever-evolving nature of my life and how that impacts my relationship with myself and the world around me.
