My name is Michael Morris, I am an artist based in Houston, Texas. Watercolor, printmaking, and drawing are the primary mediums I focus on within my work. Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by stories and myths from different cultures around the world. As I have gotten older, I developed a deep appreciation for the meaning these stories had for the people they belong to. The past is an important aspect of my work; this includes my life experience and general history. I want to create new ways of thinking for old ideas and personalize them to fit into my life. Beyond cultural and mythological influences, I have also developed an interest in occultism and esoteric practices, which have become essential symbolic tools in my imagery. All these aspects make their way into my work, and I apply whatever I learn into it and myself. I establish my imagery with elements relating to my self-image, life experiences, nature, and magic. My work is always within a state of transition, and I view these in-between states as a divine union, where two opposing forces find harmony through supernatural means. I view this unity as a magical action that transforms not only our worldviews, but how we interact with the world around us. I want to discuss the ever-evolving nature of my experience and how that impacts my relationship with myself and how I interact with the world around me.
